Essity plans to build a new waste paper recycling plant at its Prudhoe mill in the United Kingdom and further reduce the amount of virgin wood pulp used for products such as tissue. The mill's original waste paper recycling plant is 50 years old, and Essity plans to replace it with a new plant equipped with the latest recycling equipment to reduce energy costs and increase the company's ability to utilize recycled fiber.
The project is expected to be a multi-million pound investment, and Essity has filed an application with the local government, which, if approved, will boost the company's waste paper recycling capacity, allowing it to use lower grades of recycled paper, such as recycled packaging board, and save on virgin wood pulp.
